Founded in 1920, Union Carbide Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Dow Chemical Company, which manufactures a variety of chemicals and polymer materials. Union Carbide Corporation produces ethylene in addition to crude oil and natural gas products. Its additional chemical products include ethylene glycol, solvents, alcohols, surfactants, amines, isopropanol, polyethylene and polypropylene materials. Its products are used in a variety of applications, such as food containers, automotive parts, antifreeze and rubbing alcohol manufacturing. The company serves the consumer product, pharmaceutical, petroleum, paint, coating, packaging, automobile, textile and fertilizer manufacturing industries. Union Carbide Corporation has one of its research facilities located in South Charleston, W.Va.
