Washington State Patrol works for the safety and security of the general public. The organization, also known as WSP, is one of the leading law enforcement organizations in the United States. It employs a staff of more than 1,000 people and maintains crime laboratories. The organization has been in operation since 1921 and administers community outreach programs. Washington State Patrol provides online information on missing people and wanted criminals. It conducts fatality, criminal and missing children investigations. In partnership with the Washington State Department of Transportation, Washington State Patrol provides motorist assistance services in King and Pierce counties in Washington. The organization is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).
