Tacoma Public Utilities, also known as TPU, is a publicly owned corporation that is governed by the City of Tacoma in Washington. It is a department of city government that operates through revenues from the sale of services. The department is governed by the Public Utility Board. Tacoma Public Utilities offers electric, water and rail services. It operates Tacoma Power, Tacoma Water and Tacoma Rail divisions. Established in 1893, the department has a staff of more than 1,200 employees. Tacoma Public Utilities is one of the oldest municipal utilities in the United States. It provides services for residents and businesses.
