Since 1961, the Eastside Friends Meeting have been holding services and meetings in its church on a wooded and curving road off of Southeast Newport Way. The church belongs to the Religious Society of Friends, also known as the Quakers. The group does not have a minister or pastor, but they meet every Sunday for unprogrammed worship. During this time, they sit quietly for an hour to silently pray and meditate. They also listen if one of the members feels moved to share a message with the congregation. Visitors are welcome to join during worship time. The congregation also holds social hours and classes and workshops on Sundays. The church also recently remodeled its building which includes a multi-purpose room, which serves as a childcare and Sunday school, and a classroom, where the younger members can organize.
