Richard Beaver , MD

E. Peter Sabonghy, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in advanced shoulder and knee reconstruction and sports medicine. He’s also an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston and the medical director of the Ironman Sports Medicine Institute at Memorial City. Sabonghy is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the Texas Society of Sports Medicine.

Paul Shupe, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine with an emphasis on diagnosing and treating knee, shoulder, elbow, and other sports-related injuries and disorders. His patients value his shared decision-making approach to treatment. He spends time with his patients and develops a valuable doctor-patient relationship that helps navigate recovery. He uses the latest evidence-based treatments to help athletes of all ages return to their sports. Shupe has extensive, hands-on experience in sports medicine. He treats athletes playing high school and collegiate sports, as well as professional and recreational athletes. He has worked with the Texans, Rockets, Astros, and Dynamo professional sports teams in Houston. He currently serves as co-medical director for the NCAA University of Houston Athletic Department and head team physician for the NCAA University of Houston Cougars, the Memorial High School Mustangs, the George Ranch High School Longhorns, and other Houston schools. Shupe is also an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. After completing an internship in general surgery at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, Shupe served as a naval flight surgeon in Beaufort, South Carolina, caring for the marines and sailors of VMFA-312 and MAG-31. He went on to serve as a staff orthopedic surgeon at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan, and Naval Hospital Jacksonville in Florida. He then completed fellowship training in orthopedic sports medicine at UTHealth Houston. Shupe is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is actively involved in the orthopedic community. He serves locally as the vice chair of orthopedic surgery at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center and nationally on committees for the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. Outside of work, Shupe enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, exercising, watching movies, and traveling.

Adam M. Freedhand, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in total joint reconstruction with an emphasis on minimally invasive surgical techniques, including direct anterior hip replacement and partial and total knee replacement. He utilizes technologies such as robot-assisted surgery and computer navigation to enhance patient care and outcomes. Freedhand is also an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. He’s actively involved in training future total joint surgeons, sharing his expertise with residents and post-graduate physician education. Passionate about developing patient-centric pathways and protocols to optimize the joint replacement experience, his research focus is the design of instruments used in minimally invasive joint replacement procedures of the hip and knee.
