Columbia Industries, which includes the company Columbia 300, was the first major innovator in the manufacturing of bowling balls. Since its founding in 1960, Columbia moved its base operations to San Antonio, and is one of the few industries in the San Antonio-area involved with one of the country's favorite pastimes the leisure sport of bowling. It is North America s No. 1 participation sport. In 1990, Columbia entered the bowling-accessory business by introducing a line of bowling bags developed with the bowler s needs in mind. To further enhance accessory sales, Columbia acquired ProGrip in 1995. Columbia sells both polyester and polyurethane bowling balls with distribution outlets in all 50 states and nearly 30 countries overseas.
