Abelardo (Abe) Martinez-Rumayor, MD is Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology, and practices with Cardiology Clinic of San Antonio. While Dr. Martinez's early interest in medical school in Mexico was in immunology and clinical research, it was only later during clinical rotations as a foreign exchange student at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston that Dr. Martinez discovered that internal medical and cardiology were the best path for him. And once he started spending time in the cath lab, he found his true passion: interventional cardiology. Dr. Martinez completed medical school at Universidad Panamericana School of Medicine in Mexico City. He went back to Harvard to complete an internal medicine residency at Massachusetts General in Boston, where he also served as a cardiology research fellow investigating biomarkers and their application for congestive heart failure and acute coronary syndromes. Dr. Martinez then underwent further training and completed both his cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology fellowships at Parkland Memorial Hospital and the Dallas VA Medical Center, both affiliated with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Martinez practices out of the Medical Center location of Cardiology Clinic of San Antonio, focusing on performing complex coronary and peripheral vascular interventions. He has expertise with radial artery (wrist-approach) catheterizations which are more comfortable for patients and minimize the risk of bleeding and vascular complications.
