The South Carolina Highway Patrol is a public agency that upholds the laws of the constitutions of the United States and the state of South Carolina in order to promote a safe and secure environment for the public. The agency is operated by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety and has a workforce of more than 900 troop members who patrol over 64,000 miles of highway. It maintains the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement team, which provides services for drug interdiction and felony apprehension and arrest. The South Carolina Highway Patrol also has the multidisciplinary accident investigation team, which specializes in forensics, vehicle dynamics and highway engineering and designing. The agency supports and conducts various educational and training sessions. Formed in 1930, the South Carolina Highway Patrol maintains a location in Charleston, S.C.
