Friends of the Wissahickon is a nonprofit organization that works to preserve the Wissahickon Valley. The valley runs through West Mount Airy and is part of Fairmount Park. The group helps maintain trails throughout the valley, manages the growth of vegetation and generally tries to protect open space. It also sponsors educational programs and lectures. It is run, in part, by a 28-member Board of Directors which contains representatives from communities in the valley area. It also has a full-time staff and shares office space with the Chestnut Hill Historical Society, in Chestnut Hill.
