HistoryWesterwald Pottery was founded by Phil Schaltenbrand over 40 years ago. It was Phil's dream to use old-fashioned, authentic German techniques to bring quality blue and grey stoneware to southwestern PA. In the beginning, each piece of pottery was thrown, stamped, bisqued, decorated, glazed, fired and sometimes even delivered by Schaltenbrand himself. He got his start after being commissioned to make pottery for the nation's 1975 bicentennial. It was in 1983 that the company got its big break with a large order for Christmas gifts for the H.J. Heinz company. Shortly after that, Schaltenbrand moved Westerwald to its current location in Historic Scenery Hill. Today, Westerwald ships our personalized pottery to every state in the nation, and our products are featured in over 1000 shops. Every piece of pottery that passes through our factory is still made by hand, and is a collaboration of multiple skilled craftsmen and artists.SpecialtiesWesterwald Pottery has been offering custom grey and blue stoneware since 1975.
