History
Flat Rock's only general store, Peace's Grocery, located at the intersection of W. Blue Ridge Road and Hwy 225, closed in the 1980s after nearly 100 years. The closure left a void in the community. The building sat vacant for several years until Starr Teel and Virginia Spiegner, reopened the store in 1990. Virginia opened her store, The Wrinkled Egg, and Starr began baking in the back room of the store. This area now houses the Flat Rock Village Bakery, another fine addition to the area of town now known as Little Rainbow Row. Never one to rest on his laurels, Starr opened Hubba Hubba Smokehouse in 2007 in the back lot of The Wrinkled Egg. It's Starr's passion and fascination with the wood-fire that has made Hubba Hubba what it is today. Now, a new crop of bbq enthusiasts can be found in the kitchen putting their own spin on classics. Hubba Hubba offers much more than just BBQ. It offers a beautiful backdrop for savoring good food and time with friends and family.
Specialties
We are an authentic wood-fired smokehouse. No electric smokers here! We honor the Carolina Craft of LOW & SLOW barbecue, meaning we're as far from fast food as you can get. The ribs you pick up at the window, like all our meats, have been slow smoked for hours over a special selection of native hardwoods (red and white oak and hickory). All our meats are hand-pulled and selected to provide you with just the right mix of tender juiciness surrounded by seasoned bark crispness so that every bite is savory. Our sauces and sides are scratch-made right here and, when possible, we use locally sourced produce in our recipes. We strive to provide the best product we can and think you'll taste the difference.
