The sign in front says Sal's Hair Salon, and the website says it's Sal and Allyson's Hair Station. Either way, the art and science of hair care runs in the family at this West Post Road shop, which opened in 1967. Sal followed in the footsteps of his father, Charles, who was a barber in White Plains for 30 years. And in 2008, his daughter, Allyson, joined the business. The shop is comfortable and full of memorabilia that includes the chair, barber pole and original neon signs from Charles's shop, photos of and letters from satisfied customers and numerous newspaper articles on the Alfano family and its business. In addition to cuts, curls, colors, beard trimming and other salon staples, Allyson also offers customers the opportunity to experience Brazilian keratin treatments, the results of which can be seen on the shop's website. Sal is gregarious, relentlessly cheerful and a source of all kinds of information about the White Plains community. When you leave this place, in addition to looking good, you will probably feel good, too.
