Anton Media Group

Anton Newspapers was founded in 1984, after publisher Karl V. Anton bought a group of eight local weeklies originally based in Glen Cove, including the Long Islander, which was founded by Walt Whitman. Anton eventually sold the Long Islander and the rest of his papers in Suffolk, choosing to focus on the Nassau County market and moved the business headquarters to Mineola. Presently numbering 18, the weeklies include the Glen Cove Record-Pilot, Great Neck Record, Manhasset Press, Port Washington News, The Roslyn News, The Westbury Times, Oyster Bay Enterprise-Pilot, Mineola American, Garden City Life, The Illustrated News, Hicksville Illustrated News, Syosset-Jericho Tribune, Plainview-Old Bethpage Herald, Levittown Tribune, Farmingdale Observer, Massapequan Observer, Three Village Times and Floral Park Dispatch. Sometimes known by their legal moniker of Long Island Community Newspapers, Anton is also the publisher of The Boulevard Magazine and Healthy Living. After Anton's death in 2000 at the age of 81, his wife, Angela, succeeded him in the role of publisher. In addition to free on-street parking and the double-space deep lot in the front of the building, a second free lot exists on the other side of the Union and Second street intersection.

One of Anton Publications' 18 local weeklies, the Levittown Tribune was first printed in 1947 and covers news for the communities of Levittown, Island Trees and North Wantagh. Production and editorial is housed at Anton's main headquarters in Mineola, while most freelancers are based in and around the specific communities they cover.

Dover Publications

Spread across a number of buildings along 2nd Street, Dover Publications was founded in 1941 by Hayward Cirker and his wife Blanche. Primarily a reprinter of classic, out-of-copyright works, Dover is also well known for its educational titles including mathematics, science and engineering texts. Dover has approximately 7,000 titles in its catalog. One of the publisher's best selling titles was Albert Einstein's "The Principle of Relativity." Dover was also one of the first to issue books in the paperback format in 1951, later becoming the industry standard of the trade paperback. The vast majority of titles Dover publishes are in paperback format. For a time, Dover was also the publisher of classical sheet music, phonographic LP records and public domain images. Following Hayward Cirker's death in 2000, Dover was acquired by the Courier Corporation.
