The Family & Child Service of Schenectady is a nonprofit agency offers respite care and rehabilitative services for children with disabilities. Founded in 1930 as the Family Welfare Bureau, the agency provides adolescent pregnancy prevention programs and anger management group counseling solutions. It also offers individual counseling, Medicaid service coordination and traumatic brain injury treatment services. The Family & Child Service of Schenectady provides a family support services program for the families of children with developmental disabilities. It offers a family reimbursement grant program that distributes state and county funds to families for the purchase of adaptive equipment. The agency provides a homemaker program for senior citizens. It works in partnerships with various schools, churches and nonprofit institutions. In addition, the agency operates the Family Foundation of Schenectady.
