Founded in 1814, Emma Willard School is a boarding and day school for girl students in grades nine through 12. It offers classes in English, science, math, history and computer science. The school has a number of student clubs and organizations that offer classes in environmental awareness, and animal rights. It also organizes a variety of cultural activities, including music, dance and theatre. It provides opportunity for participation in various sports activities, including hockey, soccer, tennis, volleyball, basketball, softball and swimming. Emma Willard School also offers summer residential programs. Its more than 130-acre campus in Troy, N.Y, includes an auditorium, dance studio, display gallery, media center, residence and dining halls, library and a chapel. The school s library holds more than 32,000 volumes of books, journals and magazines. It is a member of the National Coalition of Girls Schools and the New York State Association of Independent Schools.
