History
With more than 18 years of experience as a fine art framer, Clint Downing opened Downing Frames in 2008 to take his dedication to the craft of hand-made framing to a higher level. Prior to the founding of Downing Frames, Clint worked as the Director of Framing at Axelle Fine Arts, Head Frame Maker at City Frame, and Operations Manager at Baobab Frames and over those years honed his craft and cultivated a profound respect for artists and their creative visions. He dedicated Downing Frames to the mission of creating hand-made, custom frames of the finest museum quality for artists, museums, galleries and their clients. Since it's beginnings in 2008 in a one-room studio in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, Downing Frames has grown exponentially each year, culminating in a recent expansion to a 6,400+ sq ft facility in Long Island City, Queens. Their ever-growing list of clients includes globally recognized artists, blue-chip galleries, and international institutions.
Specialties
Hand made frames Fueled by a commitment to superior craftsmanship, Downing Frames operates under the principle that every work of art deserves an enclosure that not only will protect it, but also complement and complete it. At Downing Frames, the frame is seen as a fortified extension of the artwork - a shelter that does not delimit the power of the piece within, but instead offers it to the world in perfect, finished form.
