Founded in 1880, Aqua Maine is a public water utility that owns and manages more than 15 water systems engaged in the collection, treatment and distribution of potable water for homes, businesses and fire protection services. It serves over 16,000 customers throughout the state of Maine. Aqua Maine s sources of water include lakes, ponds and rivers. It operates various filtration treatment plants. Aqua Maine s regulatory agencies include the Maine Department of Human Services, Maine Public Utilities Commission, Drinking Water Program and Maine Department of Environmental Protection.
