The Hjemkomst Center museum offers a snapshot of local history and culture in the Upper Midwest, featuring the Hjemkomst Viking Ship, Moorhead's Hopperstad Stave Church, and a rotation of art and history exhibitions. The Hjemkomst Center is directed by the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to the preservation of the history of Clay County and presenting its rich heritage with exhibitions, events, and programming. The museum's flagship exhibition is the Hjemkomst Center Ship Gallery, where photographs, recordings, and an award-winning documentary chronicle the construction of the 76-foot, hand-built Viking ship and its incredible 6,000-mile voyage across the Atlantic in 1982.
