St. Stephen's began in a newly built church on Summer Street in 1833, once known as "Frog Lane." In 1917, the church voted to adopt the name of "St. Stephen's," in honor of the first Christian martyr. The Methodist Society maintained that structure until 1959.
Due to the growing church membership and parking concerns in the congested " downtown" section, the church community from 1956-1959 built a new church structure at 67 Cornell Road. Today the building houses a weekday nursery school and a Boy scouting program The church's members have endorsed and supported community events and programs such as My Brother's Table, the Marblehead Senior Citizens, the town food pantry, women's art program, and the Marblehead Christian - Jewish Covenant of Tolerance.
