The Blind Tiger Brewery and Restaurant opened for business in 1995, becoming Topeka s first microbrewery and the largest brewery in Kansas. The Blind Tiger was named after the Prohibition-era custom of displaying stuffed tigers to alert patrons to the location of a speakeasy and the availability of bootlegged alcohol. The Blind Tiger serves locally brewed, handcrafted beers. The microbrewery features a multi-level interior with a capacity of 450 people on eight different levels, including an outdoor deck. The special bar and lounge offers full menu service with seating for 150 people. The Blind Tiger offers a variety of handcrafted ales, lagers, beers and porters. There are six flagship brews on tap: Blind Tiger Amber, Holy Grail Pale Ale, County Seat Wheat, Tiger Paw Porter, Hefeweizen and Raspberry Wheat. Seasonal brews alternate on tap, including Parsons Gold, Irish Red, Imperial Stout and Smoked Maple Porter. The brewery equipment is located throughout the restaurant, with the fermentation tanks looming at the front of the dining area.
