History
A long, long time ago -- in 1853 to be exact -- before the Civil War had begun and Cedar Falls was still a town of 40 residents, The Winslow House opened its doors to travelers and its tavern to the thirsty. The hotel not only provided travelers with a bed, food and drink, but also a place for locals to gather, greet each other, and exchange the news of the day. The hotel has undergone significant renovations and renaming since 1853, but has remained a destination for locals and travelers alike. Today, The Black Hawk Hotel is the oldest continuously operated hotel west of the Mississippi River. We're proud of our roots; at Bar Winslow, you will find we celebrate local history in everything we do. From our name, to the prohibition-inspired cocktails, to the original penny tile still on the floors today. So come on in and get cozy. We welcome you to sit and stay awhile, indulging in the beauty of the hotel and the gift of the community.
