Shana'e Sobieray, AUD - Beacon Medical Group ENT and Audiology South Bend
A first-generation college student growing up in Flint, MI, Shana’e Sobieray appreciates the value of hard work and dedication. "My father always instilled the need for education," she says. "I guess that is one piece of advice from him that I took and ran with!" She knew in college that she wanted a career either as a physician, counselor or teacher. By her third year, she discovered the field of audiology. "It was the perfect mix of helping people, counseling, teaching and working with advanced technology to make it all happen." Shana’e diagnoses and treats hearing and balance disorders and performs testing to determine the cause and best course of treatment for each patient. She works with newborns through older adults, although she has a particular fondness for pediatrics. Shana’e chose to practice at Beacon because of its reputation for quality care. "I know that as a Beacon provider I will be able to see my patients and have the right tools needed to complete a high-quality level of care at every appointment." She works alongside Dr. Isaacson for implantable hearing solutions, such as cochlear implants and Baha or Osia bone-anchored hearing devices. When it comes to her philosophy of patient care, it’s all about her patient’s goals – and listening. "I will always make my professional recommendation known," she explains. "However, I will never offer a treatment option that you are not comfortable with." Shana’e treats each patient as if they were a member of her own family. "I’m here to listen," she says. "You will not experience the same communication difficulties that you do in everyday life when you are in my office. I am ready to hear your frustrations, and I’m ready to help lessen them." In her own words… What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? I worked at Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts. I remember the sense of community and camaraderie among my co-workers that taught me how a team should really work! What is your favorite food? Movie? Chinese food is my favorite. Matilda is a classic favorite rainy-day movie. What were your best/worst subjects in school growing up? I really enjoyed world history. Physics was not my forte. If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? My father. I’d love the chance to introduce him to, and tell him about, my daughter. In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? Ensuring that everyone feels comfortable enough to be their true self in my presence. What are your hobbies, interests? As a mother to an infant turning toddler, I enjoy long showers, drinking coffee while it’s still hot and sleeping past 6 a.m. Do you have pets? I have two middle-aged, lovable, loudmouth cats.
