Southwest Ball Hockey, established in 1971 by Boys Field Hockey, Inc., is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing children aged 5 to 15 with the opportunity to participate in fast-paced, no-checking Dek ball hockey. Run entirely by volunteers, Southwest Ball Hockey offers two seasons, Winter and Summer, with games played on weekday evenings and Sundays. Emphasizing good sportsmanship, the organization encourages parental involvement and provides various volunteer positions such as coaches, referees, and fundraisers.
With a focus on player safety, Southwest Ball Hockey ensures that all participants wear protective gear including helmets with face guards, shin guards, elbow pads, and hockey gloves. The Winter season consists of 14-16 games starting in November and ending in April, culminating in the President's Cup Playoffs and an Awards Banquet. Families with players in the Minor, Junior, and Senior divisions are required to volunteer for a 3-hour shift at the concession stand, and a concession supervisor is also needed on Sundays. Southwest Ball Hockey is grateful for the support of its sponsors, including Chicago Ridge F.O.P. Lodge 12, Marquette Bank, Public Safety Direct, and Don's World of Sports.
