The Metropolis Police Department maintains social order and peace, as well as provides law enforcement services. The department offers services for the protection of residents lives and property, as well as deterrence, detection and investigation of criminal activities. The Metropolis Police Department maintains a criminal investigation division that undertakes cases related to burglary, homicide, theft and robbery. It partners with various local, state and federal law enforcement agencies on a variety of assignments and is a member of the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force. In addition, the department provides special patrol services for various events, including Superman Celebration, Fort Massac Encampment and Labor Day Celebration.
