After nearly 100 years in business, Horween Leather Company has been the premiere producer of some of the finest leather worldwide. The company specializes in the manufacturing of fine leather products including belts, briefcases, wallets and shoes. It utilizes native hides for grain and yields, premium grade oils, dyes and retanning agents for its formulas. Horween has provided all of the leather for Wilson's Official NFL footballs since the 1950s, having developed the trademarked Tanned in Tack tanning process. Horween is among the last producers of shell cordovan leather in North America. Shell cordovan is leather that comes from a horse's hindquarters. These hides are slowly tanned, nourished with natural oils, shaved and then polished. Horween's shell cordovan is tanned using a six-month process with formulas that date back to its founder, Isadore Horween in 1905. Horween Leather Company is located in Chicago.
