Charles Hoogland established Family Video in 1978. Hoogland inherited Midstates Appliance and Supply Company, the predecessor to Family Video, from his father, Clarence Hoogland. Thus, the Video Movie Club of Springfield, located in Springfield, Ill., was created. The Video Movie Club was one of the first video rental stores in the United States.
