Founded in Hawaii in 1907 by a small group of Waiakea fishermen and sellers, it began as an organization for marketing fresh fish. It later entered the frozen food business, took over a local shoyu (soy sauce) and miso brewery, acquired a jam and jelly plant and built a processing operation for guava puree and other popular island fruits. In 1994, Suisan Company added a produce division to compliment the array of dry groceries and refrigerated products.
