The Department of Community Services is a part of the government of the City and County of Honolulu in Hawaii. Established in 1970, the department focuses on serving the physical and social needs of residents. It is comprised of various divisions, including community-based economic development, elderly affairs and administrative services. The Department of Community Services administers more than $50 million dollars in federal, state, local and private grants. It offers a range of rehabilitation, home repair, adult residential care, sewer connection, solar roof water heating, disaster assistance and down payment loans. The department operates a special projects office that develops and implements human service, community revitalization initiatives to address the needs of socially and economically disadvantaged youth, adults, families and communities. In addition, the Department of Community Services provides a variety of child care and employment counseling and training programs.
