Central Union Church traces its roots back to 1833, with the establishment of the Seamen's Bethel in the Port of Honolulu. Situated on the waterfront, it was started by the American Seamen's Friend Society to minister to English-speaking sailors from whaling and trading ships. The worship services attracted a number of English-speaking townspeople, who in 1837 organized themselves as Oahu Bethel Church. In 1887, Central Union Church was created with more than 330 members. The church offers Sunday school and children's ministries, a central union preschool, youth choir, community outreach services, after school programs for youth and young adults, and couples and singles ministries. It also offers membership and fellowship programs, deacons and deaconesses, adult education programs, a senior center and senior services, and a ministry of music. Central Union Church is located in Honolulu.
