The cannon has been blasting off at Schooners during every sunset for many years. The crowds roar in unison 10, 9, 8, 7 . . . counting down to the moment the sun dips below the horizon and the cannon roars. It's the beach's signal that one more day has ended and the fun is just beginning. Schooners is an open-air local beach club on the Gulf Coast. It started back in the late 1960s and was known as The Beach Party. In 1985, Jim Cannon purchased The Beach Party and renamed it Schooners. The club serves lunch, dinner and drinks. Its appetizers include wings, lobster cake, calamari, crab claws, soups, salads and onion rings. The lunch menu consists of grouper, burgers, sandwiches, shrimp, chicken strips and side dishes. Dinner includes shrimp, tuna, grouper, oysters, chicken and beef entrees. Schooners also provides live entertainment with local bands throughout the week.
