Newsome High School is named after Joe E. Newsome, who was the owner of Brown and Newsome Prescription Center until his retirement and a member of the School Board of Hillsborough County for more than 25 years. Founded in 2003, the school participates in competitive sports and art, writing and a variety of academic competitions. It operates math, science, English, career technology, social studies, and health and physical education departments. In addition, Newsome High School operates foreign language and family and consumer science departments. The school is accredited by the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. Located in Lithia, Fla., Newsome High School is a part of Hillsborough County Public Schools.
