The Solid Waste Department of Miami, Fla., provides collection and disposal of garbage and trash. The department undertakes its duties pursuant to the requirements and regulations of the city code. Its services are utilized by more than 68,000 single-family and multifamily homes throughout the city. The department is comprised of an administration division and an operations division. The administration division provides enforcement of codes, support services and customer services. The operations division is responsible for collection of garbage, recycling, street sweeping and composting. In addition to collecting trash from residences, the department maintains and services more than 400 litter containers. It also produces compost and mulch that is offered to residents of the city without a fee.
