The Cape San Blas Lighthouse in Port St. Joe, FL has a rich history, with four lighthouses having been built on the cape since 1836. The lighthouse, located on the southernmost point of Florida's Panhandle, was initially constructed to mark the entrance to St. Joseph Bay and the treacherous shoals south of the cape. However, due to budget constraints, only one lighthouse was built initially. Over the years, hurricanes and erosion took their toll on the lighthouse, leading to the construction of subsequent towers. Today, the Cape San Blas Lighthouse stands as a testament to the resilience and determination of the keepers who maintained it.
Throughout its history, the Cape San Blas Lighthouse has faced numerous challenges, including hurricanes, erosion, and even the destruction caused by the Civil War. Despite these setbacks, the lighthouse has been rebuilt multiple times, with each iteration showcasing advancements in technology and design. Visitors to the Cape San Blas Lighthouse can explore its fascinating past and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding area. This iconic landmark serves as a reminder of the importance of maritime navigation and the dedication of those who have worked to keep sailors safe along Florida's coast.

On our vacation and I love lighthouses. So pleased to see this one. We've traveled 98 East, perfect way to see 3 or 4 of them.
Older lighthouse; with COVID we opted out of the close quarters tour. We wandered over to the small area nearby and walked along Mexico Beach after which was beautiful.
