Fort Collins Police Services is the law enforcement branch of the Fort Collins city government. The department is charged with protecting life and property, preserving peace and order, preventing and detecting crime, enforcing laws and ordinances, and promoting the safe, efficient use of the city's streets and highways. The office of the chief provides overall management and accountability for the department, determines professional standards, and oversees the hiring, training and internal affairs of the department. The information services division manages the communications center, police records, crime lab and laboratory. The investigative services division investigates crimes committed against people and/or their property and coordinates the school resource officer program. The patrol services division performs police patrols, apprehends criminal offenders, enforces traffic laws, investigates traffic accidents and coordinates crime prevention activities.
