History
Founders Zach Zachowski & Barbara Gabel grew up in small towns in Wisconsin. After living in Chicago for several years, they developed a taste for Chicago-style pizza. In 1983, they found themselves in the East Bay with dreams of opening their own pizza restaurant - with a California twist. Zach & Barbara opened the original Zachary's on July 25, 1983 in the Rockridge neighborhood in Oakland. Business took off immediately. To meet the growing demand, they opened a second store in nearby Berkeley on Solano Avenue just over a year later in 1984. Two decades later, Zach & Barbara began handing over the company to the employees. In 2006 Zachary's in San Ramon opened. Four years later in 2010 we became 100% employee-owned! In 2013 we opened Zachary's in Downtown Pleasant Hill. We celebrated 36 years in the Bay Area in 2019 by opening our second Oakland location in the Grand Lake neighborhood. Our most recent adventure was the relocation of Zachary's San Ramon to Pleasanton in July of 2021!
