Reopened in December 2005, Virginia Avenue Park is a quick stroll from Santa Monica College, and only a few blocks away from the 10 Freeway. It offers numerous traditional and non-traditional park amenities, as well as community meeting areas. However, the park's most popular attraction is the Farmers Market, which it hosts every Saturday from 8am to 1pm.
The Thelma Terry Building, located on the northwest side of the park, houses a multi-purpose room, as well as a pair of classrooms designated for senior adults and a homework-assistance program. Meanwhile, the Teen Center has a kitchen, a computer workshop and two classrooms for art activities; and The Patio hosts community meetings and also features a classroom where an infant and family program is held.
On the southeast corner of the park is the Park Center, where the Administrative Office, a Santa Monica Police sub-station, a conference room, a Community Room, a Chrysalis office and two fitness gyms are headquartered. Boxing and martial-arts activities are held in the latter room, which also contains weight equipment.
Finally, Virginia Avenue Park also includes two lighted basketball courts, and a Splash Pad where children cool each off with stationary water cannons in the summertime. Fires in the park are permitted only for barbecues.
