History
The Museum of Ventura County first opened in the newly built Ventura County Courthouse (now Ventura City Hall). It was first known as the Pioneer Museum. In 1977, the Museum moved to its 15,000 square foot building on Ventura's Main Street, near historic Mission San Buenaventura. We are an independent nonprofit (501c3) organization, no longer receiving operating support from the County of Ventura.
Specialties
The Museum of Ventura County collects, preserves, and interprets the history and art of Ventura County. We seek to educate the public through our various exhibits, and community events. These offerings are bolstered by our research library which holds tens of thousands of images and county records. The Museum of Ventura County is a terrific venue for weddings, corporate events, concerts, graduation ceremonies, etc!
