Roosterfish, located in Venice, CA, is a historic gay bar and restaurant that has been serving the Westside gay community for over 36 years. Founded in 1979 by Walter Schneider and B.M. Alexander, also known as Alex, Roosterfish was initially established in West Hollywood before relocating to its current location on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice. The bar was named after the roosterfish, a feisty game fish found off the coast of Mexico near Cabo San Lucas, a place that Walter and Alex enjoyed sailing. After the passing of Alex in 1988 and Walter in 2006, the bar was left to their accountant, Doug Amann, Donald Rhyde, Don Cranford, and Gary Mick, who now manages the establishment. Today, Roosterfish is a popular hotspot for the gay community, attracting a discerning clientele from Southern California and beyond.

Honestly this place just sucks. It used to be such a cool dive bar. Now its just another carbon copy velvet rope venice douchebag place. I paid over $18 for a crappy poorly made old fashioned...

Perfect little bar in SaMo, good music and chill vibe. Lots of space but the two single bathrooms do cause issues with a line if you have to pee. If one of them was for guys and had like 2 urinals...

I have really enjoyed the atmosphere every time I've been here, whether for a chill daytime/evening or at night, with good drinks and nice bartenders. I went here for NYE and it was way more fun...
