The Office of the District Attorney is responsible for public safety and welfare. The office is involved in the enforcement of criminal and civil laws. It works in association with local law enforcement agencies to combat gang activities. The Office of the District Attorney represents the people of California in various civil and criminal proceedings through a staff of a staff of more than 200 attorneys. Its Branch Court Operation division files felonies, conducts preliminary hearings and handles juvenile offenders. The office also has a felony operation division that manages cases related to homicide, sexual assault, family protection, consumer and environmental frauds. The Office of the District Attorney s investigation division provides trial preparation assistance and serves as a liaison to local police agencies. The office is governed by Orange County in California.
