The Betty Ford Center is a nonprofit organization that provides treatment for the disease of alcoholism and other drug addiction for the entire family including patients, their families and their children. The center opened in 1982 and has had more than 60,000 people attend programs. From its earliest days, the center has treated women and men suffering from chemical dependency. The center has always saved 50 percent of its space for women and 50 percent for men. Treatment is gender-specific; women and men reside in separate halls. The Betty Ford Center is one of the nation's leading licensed addiction treatment hospitals. The center's 20-acre campus is located in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
