The Department of Consumer Affairs, also known as DCA, helps consumers learn how to protect themselves from unscrupulous and unqualified individuals in California. It protects professionals from unfair competitions by unlicensed practitioners. The department issues licenses in more than 100 business and over 150 professional categories, including doctors, dentists, contractors, cosmetologists and automotive repair facilities. The Department of Consumer Affairs also offers licenses for accountants, architects, barbers, cosmetologists, dentists, embalmers, optometrists, pharmacists, physicians and veterinarians. It operates an athletic commission, acupuncture board and consumer information center. The department additionally provides a complaint resolution program. The Department of Consumer Affairs accepts consumer complaints.
