Wellington M. Smith, Jr. Juvenile Hall is a short-term, 110-plus-bed detention facility. It serves juveniles who are awaiting the adjudication of their cases. Wellington M. Smith, Jr. Juvenile Hall caters to the social, physical, behavioral, psychological and emotional needs of minors who are charged with criminal acts and probation violations. The juvenile hall offers medical and behavioral health care services. It is operated and maintained by the Monterey County Probation Department, which is governed by Monterey County in California. Its probation department supervises more than 8,500 offenders and is responsible for recommending sanctions to courts, operating correctional institutions, incarcerating delinquents and providing corrective assistance to individuals in conflict with the law.
