History
Betti Ono was founded in 2011 as an experiment in art and community development. Our founder Anyka Barber, was offered the opportunity to transform a vacant, blighted store front property in Oakland's burgeoning Uptown Arts and Entertainment District, to help revitalize the neighborhood, support local artists and bringing community together for innovative arts and culture experiences, exhibitions, programs and events open to the public. This temporary, pop-up location at 18th and Telegraph was open for 1.5 years, before the headquarters was moved to its current location, clustered with Awaken Cafe and Oaklandish 1427 Broadway in Downtown Oakland.
