The Berkeley Buddhist Priory is a temple for meditation and teaching, following the traditions of the Buddha Shakyamuni. It offers services three times a day in the Serene Reflection Meditation tradition. Founded in 1973 and at this location since 1982, the Priory is a branch of the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives, which was founded by the late Rev. Master Jiyu-Kennett, the same master who founded this temple. The current Prior is Rev. Kinrei Bassis, a disciple of the founder. The Priory offers free meditation classes, talks and retreats, and is supported by donations. Meditation instruction, an introduction to Buddhist meditation practices, is offered every Thursday at 6:45pm.
