1642 just opened in March of 2010. Before that it was one of the roughest bars in the area, a supposed gangster hangout called Lupita's. Owner Liz Fischbach renovated the space, leaving a minimalist setting housed in classic Los Angeles 1940s architecture. Though the vibe is intentionally dive-ish, patrons will find an interesting selection of four to six craft beers, most of which are locally brewed, plus some hard-to-find bottled and canned beer, as well as three red and three white wines. Food is confined to salty peanuts, bands and deejays perform weekly and there's live jazz on Wednesdays. You must be at least 21 to enter.
